The benefits and deeds of Ashura Minal Muharram.
The Naming of sacred Ashura: The word Ashura is derived from the word ‘Asharah’ which means ten. The Ashura Minal Muharram means the tenth day of the month of Muharramul Haram. The importance of the most honored and the most sacred Muharram Shareef specially the most honored and the most sacred Ashura Shareef is so high that the fasting of the Ashura Shareef was a Fard (must) before the fasting of Ramadan was made mandatory. It was declared in Hadith Shareef directly about fasting of Ashura Shareef-
Meaning: Described by Hadrwat Abu Hurayra RwadiAllahu Anhu that Noor-e-Mujassam Habeebullah Huzur Pak Swallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam declared, “The best fasting after the fasting of the sacred Ramadan Shareef is the fasting of the month of Allah the sacred Muharram Shareef. Ref: Muslim Shareef, Muharram Shareef, Mishqat Shareef, Riyadus Salehin Shareef.
There is more description in Hadith Shareef-
Meaning: “Honor the Muharram and the Day of Ashura of the month. The person who will honor the Muharram month meant the Day of Ashura, Allah will honor him with Jannah and release him from Jahannam. Subhanallah! Ref: Al-Bayinat Shareef-238
In other description- The person who will fast on the occasion of Ashura, Allah Pak will grant him with the reward of fasting at day time and prayers of night for sixty years. Subhanallah!
The practices of the Day of sacred Ashura Shareef:
Practice-01: It is an exclusive Sunnah to do fasting on the ninth and tenth Day of Ashura Shareef or to do fasting on the tenth and eleventh Day of Ashura if there are reasons. It has been declared in Hadith shareef in this matter-
Meaning: It is described from Hadrwat Abdullah Ibn’ Abbas RwadiAllahu Ta’ala Anhu that Noor-e-Mujassam Habeebullah, Huzur Pak Swallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam declared,
“You deviate and do the opposite from the jews by fasting on the nineth and the tenth Day of Ashura Shareef.”
Ref: Tirmizee Shareef
Meaning: It is described from Hadrwat Abu Katadah RwadiAllahu Ta’ala Anhu that Noor-e-Mujassam Habeebullah Swallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam declared, “Fasting on the occasion of Ashura Shareef, I wish that Allah forgives the Umma for the past year’s sins.”
Ref: Muslim Shareef
The rules of Fasting: It is an exclusive Sunnah to do fasting on ninth and tenth Day of Ashura Shareef or to do fasting on the tenth and eleventh Day of Ashura if there are reasons. The Jews used to fast for one day on the occasion of Ashura Shareef, so we must do it for two days in order to deviate from them. It means that, if we desire to get the virtues of Ashura, we have to follow the sunnah Mubarak precisely. Kafeers and mushreeks must not be followed.
Practice-02: To arrange better meals for family members and offer them good dresses. There is a declaration in Hadith shareef-
Meaning: “It is described from Abdullah Ibn’ Maswood RwadiAllahu Anhu that Noor-e-Mujassam, Habeebullah Huzur Pak Swallallahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam declared, “The person who will offer a better meal for his family members in honor of Ashura Sharee, Allah Pak will render him solvency for one year.” (Ref: Tabarani Shareef, Ma-Sabata Bis-Sunnah).
Rules for good food and good dress: Since fasting is to be done on the ninth and tenth days, therefore, good food should be arranged on the night of the ninth during dinner and Sahri. The Sunnah food is the best among all types of food and sunnah way of taking food should be followed. Such as using a Dawstarkhan (especially dark brown leather of a castrated goat), to begin the meal by saying “Bismillah Ala Barakatillah”, to begin with salt, to eat from the right side of plate, not to take food from the middle, to pick up from Dawstakhan if any food particles drop, to lick up the fingers and plate at the end of the meal and finish the meal with a pinch of salt. Water is to be taken in three sips. To fill one portion of the stomach with food, one portion with liquid and a third portion to remain empty. To leave the meal at a time when more food could have been consumed. To say the supplication after meal-
“Alhamdulillah Hillazi, at’Amanah, wa saqana, wa ja’alana, minal Muslimeen”. It is an exclusive Sunnah to use wooden plates and bowls and a food mat of a castrated goat skin. Also, to wear better clothing would obviously mean the Sunnah one. One may not avail the blessings and benefits of taking good food for Ashura if he follows the customs of the non-believers (wears their dresses or follows their customs etc.) All these food staff and other necessary articles as prescribed by Sunnah are available in the Canteen of Muhammadia Jameeah Shareef Madrassah. For convenience of placing orders, the product list is appended bellow:

Practice-03: To take shower: There is description in Hadith Shareef
Meaning: The person who will take shower on the Day of Ashura (with the thought of Ashura), Allah Pak will give him relief from all diseases except death and he will remain safe from laziness and sorrows. SubhanAllah!
The sunnah way of bathing: Using olive oil before and after bath is Sunnah Mubarak that means both are Subbah Mubarak. After applying oil, one needs to do the miswak (brushing with wooden brush). Then both hands up to the wrists be washed taking water by the right hand. Then washing to be done like the ablution except the feet. One who is fasting should take care not to gurgle or let water in, in the nose and keep it downward while using water.
After the ablution, the hair root has to soak perfectly by pouring water and using fingers. If it is long Sunnah hair of a male or a plait/braid of a female, water must reach up to the hair root. And then, water is poured three times in a way over the right shoulder and then over the left shoulder to flow over the whole body. The navel, the armpit and the groins must be thoroughly washed with water. If there is a ring in the finger, water must reach under the ring. Using of the coir of sponge gourd to wash every part of body is sunnah. And using a pumice stone to rub the foot is sunnah too. It is sunnah to use one Mudd’a (625gm) of water for ablution and maximum five Mudd’a (3125gm or 3.25 liters) for shower. More water can be used if needed but certainly, wasting water is not desirable. After the bath, moving little distance, one needs to wash his feet three times each and to wipe out the whole body with a towel. Using oil in head is sunnah too.
Way of using oil in Head: Firstly, applying oil in the right eyebrow with the index finger, then on the left eyebrow, then right eyelid, then left eyelid. And then applying oil from the right side of head as needed. Using oil in beard- applying oil in the right eyebrow with the index finger, then on the left eyebrow and then on the chin beard. Then using the oil from right side of beard. In every case, oil has to be used from right side. Here is a list of Sunnah products required for bathing. These Sunnah products are available in Muhammadia Jamia Shareef Canteen. Orders are accepted online and over phone. Home delivery is available across the country.

Practice-04: To use the antimony- There is description in Hadith Shareef-
Meaning: The person who uses antimony with Mesk (Ismeed Surma) on the Day of Ashura, no disease will attack his eyes for next one year. Subhanallah!
The way to use of Antimony: There are three rules to use antimony in eyes: 1. Firstly, one has to use two times at right eye, then two times for left eye. And then, one time to right eye and then one time to left eye. 2. Firstly, one has to use the antimony three times to right eye and then two times to left eye. 3. Firstly, one has to use the antimony to right eye for three times and then left eye for three times. This way, antimony has to be used on the Day of Ashura through either of the rules. The actual Ismeed antimony is available at the Sunnat Promotion center of Muhammadia Jamia Shareef.
Practice-05: To offer iftar who does fasting- There is a description in Hadith Shareef:
Meaning: One who offers iftar to a person fasting on the Day of Ashura is like offering iftar to the whole Ummah Habeebullah Swallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam. Subhanalla!
There are options available at the Muhammadia Jamia Shareef Madrasha canteen to participate in offering ifter. For this, contributions may be made to Madrasha fund for the following packages of iftar.

Practice-06: Practice no.6: Patting an Orphan, Giving Food to one Hungry and Offering Drinks to the Thirsty:
Hadith Shareef: On the Day of Ashura, one who would affectionately touch the head of an Orphan, would give food to one hungry and would offer drinks to one thirsty, shall be rewarded by Allah Pak in a manner that He would be offered food on the Heavenly Dastarkhana and shall be offered drinks from a Heavenly stream called ‘Sal-Sabeel’. SubhanAllah! It is rather more difficult to observe the practices number 5 and 6 than the others because helping or feeding Fasiq-Fujjar (people with evil-concepts) shall not bring any fruits or blessings of Ashura. On the other hand, it is difficult to find true orphans and true poor people. Therefore, it is rather an easier way of remaining as a participant of those practices on the Day of Ashura by donating in the following package of Tabaruk of the Muhammadia Jameah Shareef Madrassah:
The orphan package 1:700
The orphan package 2:900
The orphan package 3:2400
The orphan package 4: others value
